Redhawk Justice is a social justice club at St. Athanasius School. Students from grades 5 - 8 are welcome to participate. The club meets 1-2 times a month throughout the school year during the lunch hour.
The year covers 2 - 3 topic areas and follows a model of learn, serve, and reflect. The learning sessions allow students to gather an overview about the topic area (last year we explored homelessness, immigration, and hunger). We then arrange a service project that includes opportunities for other family members to join. After the service project we spend time reflecting on our observations and experience. Our goal is for students to have new experiences and make deeper connections to their community and each other while understanding their own role in addressing injustice in our community.
Parents of 5th - 8th grade students receive an email at the beginning of the school year from St. Athanasius School administration to start the sign up process. However, students can join at any time during the year by contacting the club facilitators.
If your child participates, you will be added to our email list for updates and invitations to the service projects.
The club is organized by St. Athanasius School parents Julie and Matt Pellerite who can be reached at juliepellerite@gmail.com and mpellerite@gmail.com with questions or interest.
